The History of the  "F" brand

The "F" brand can be seen on all of the Todd's Irish Black sale cattle.  When asked what the "F" stands for, I like to tell people, "Fantastic!".  On our cattle, the brand is located on the left hip, and is placed high enabling it to be read from horseback or afoot.  The brand has a long and interesting history and has been held in my family for three generations.

The "F" brand was purchased by my granddad, Lennie Houston Todd,  in 1943 from a man who owned a dairy in Virginia City, Montana.  Lennie's son and my father, Richard L. Todd, was a paratrooper and served in World War II.  Toward the end of the war, Dad's orders were to drop into the Philippines as McArthur battled to retake the islands.  In a turn of events, Dad and a buddy of his became quarantined with the mumps and were unable to participate in the mission.  By the time they had recovered, the war was over.  Dad remained involved in the occupation of Japan post WWII before coming home to Montana.  My father was presented with the brand as a homecoming gift.  His life’s work was cattle ranching with the "F" brand proudly displayed on his cattle.  Upon Dad's retirement in the early 1990's, I carried on the tradition of the "F" brand on Todd cattle.

We are grateful and humbled that the "F" Brand has remained in our family for all these years and hope it will continue that way in generations to come.

You'll see the "F" brand on our 2017 Sale Bulls.  Please view photos and statistics on "Our Sale Bulls" page and feel free to contact us for further information.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful winter.
Terry
