In the summer of 2015, Dr. Terry Todd and his wife, Julie, were given the opportunity to purchase the Irish Black Founder’s Herd from IB&R Trademarks, and they accepted!  This herd was developed by the founder of the Irish Black and Irish Red breeds, Maurice Boney.  Since 1971, Maurice Boney devoted his breeding efforts to improving the positive characteristics of his Irish Black and Irish Red cattle while culling any deficiencies.

The herd has been brought down from St. Ignatius, Montana to the Ruby Valley, near Sheridan, Montana.  The Founder’s Herd will be integrated with the Todd’s Irish Black herd as seed stock to further strengthen and  emphasize the prepotency of the Irish Black stock with regard to characteristics such as udder quality, environmental adaptability, longevity, calving ease and flavor.  (Please click here for a list of Irish Black characteristics.)  The Founder’s Herd includes 52 cows, a bull, and 21 red and black mixed bull and heifer calves.

In addition to purchasing the Founder’s Herd, the Todds have also acquired from IB&R Trademarks the remaining supply of frozen embryos and semen produced by the Founder’s Herd breeding program.  For more information about the Founder’s Herd, the development of the Irish Black breed and Maurice Boney, please visit www.OriginalIrishBlacks.com.

If you’re interested in purchasing offspring, embryos or semen from the Founder’s Herd, please call Dr. Terry Todd at (406) 842-5515.  To see a slideshow of photos of the Founder’s Herd, please click here.
